Elastics (Rubber Bands)

Wearing elastics or rubber bands changes how your upper teeth fit over your lower teeth. They do the heavy lifting for bite correction, both over and underbites. Wearing rubber bands as instructed will improve your bite so it’s more comfortable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing.

palatal expander

Palatal Expander

A palatal expander is used to slowly widen the upper jaw. This appliance is used in young, growing children to treat excessive crowding, crossbites, and is often used to treat a narrow palate which could be caused by thumb sucking, tongue posture, or genetics. We use custom 3D printed palatal expanders in our practice, that do not require traditional bands, spacers and goopy impressions.

Space Maintainers

Sometimes the tooth fairy comes to see us before we are ready to lose a tooth!  When that happens, teeth that are in the mouth can move to places they should not move to, and cause problems as we grow up. We use custom 3D printed space maintainers of many designs to hold teeth in place until the teeth are ready for braces. These appliances do not require spacers, traditional bands or goopy impressions!

retainers

Retainers

Teeth have memory! They will always move back to where they came from without the use of a retainer to hold them in their new perfect position. Retainers can be removable or permanent and are made of a clear thermoformed plastic like material or biocompatible metal. They are fabricated off of super accurate 3D printed digital models of your mouth and teeth. Once you’ve completed treatment, retainers must be worn ‘nighttime for a lifetime’ while sleeping to preserve tooth position.
